Algeciras
is situated directly on the coast, the straits of
Gibraltar. Between two continents (Europe and Africa)
and between two seas (Mediterranean Sea and the
Atlantic Ocean). The Alcornocales Nature Reserve
(it is said to be one of the most beautiful places
in Europe) and the Estrecho Nature Park are the
surroundings of this city.
The
turbulent history of Algeciras goes back to the
1st Century of our age. The old name PORTUS ALBUS
in Roman times changes later in the Arabic times
into Al-Yazirat Al-Jadra (La Isla Verde), or simply
ALGECIRAS, which we name it now.
In
Algeciras city and the nearer surroundings you can
sea clearly the different, cultural influences,
which the city has experienced until today. Splendour
and ruin have left important vestiges over centuries
through the Arabs, Muslims, Romans and Christians.
As e.g. the Roman CERAMIC OVENS of "El Rinconcillo"
going back to the1st Century (711), situated close
to one of the beaches of Algeciras with the same
name, only giving one example.

Algeciras
is an area full of contrasts: Modernity and Antiques,
Nature and Industry, Mountains and Beaches meet together.
The
Arabic time of Algeciras has played an important role
for the development of this big harbour of Andalusia,
and is so being the most important economic part of
this region:
The lots of logistic warehouses for the delivery of
the very different good of all countries, container
transports (shipping) , fishing and of course the
transport of passengers as for example the ferries
to Marocco (Tanger/Ceuta).
Beside
the economic factor of the harbour the tourist sector
becomes more and more important.
Just
a few kilometres away from Algeciras you can visit
Gibraltar. In the surroundings you can play golf and
enjoy a famous Polo Cup. Sports as sailing, surfing,
kiting, biking and walking are on the top of the sport
list.
The
beaches, sport harbour, the choice between the many
different culinary Restaurants, Bars, small and bigger
Hotels, the large selection on boutiques, big shopping
centres, supermarkets, fish market, bullring, the
parks and the cultural offer in general, the really
good bus connections supplying all directions, the
train station, and much more offer the tourist a big
selection of fun and tranquility.

Algeciras
is special.
The SEMANA SANTA (Easter week) is for example a
real adventure with its procession, the brotherhoods
whose roots go back more than 250 years, and also
the many events during this time.
The "Royal Algeciras Fair" is that highlight
of the year, which takes nine days and nine nights.
With small stands, the Las Palomas bullring with
famous persons of the scenary, and many attractions
invite you to have a lot of fun.
Worthwhile
are the churches Nuestra Senora de la Palma and
Virgen de Europa, which are situated in the city
centre of Algeciras, in Plaza Alta. This place itself
is wonderful designed with a central fountain.

the city(Nuestro Padre Jesús de Medinaceli)

Perhaps you visit Algeciras. A city incomporable
with its geographice situation, the excellent climate,
a history which goes back thousands of years. And
additional to the Nature Parks the beaches with
its fine, golden and fantastic sands are a great
adventure and a holiday which you never forget.
