Ronda
is a cultural monument of a very special kind. Only
45 km from Marbella away you can´t believe
what you´ll see. Coming from Marbella (San
Pedro) can be a little bit serious in the winter,
because the new access with its partly icy road
in the curves will be the case of accidents. The
access from the direction of Fuengirola/ Mijas is
more beautiful, but it takes a lot of time. Have
a look at our travelougs (tour).

In
Ronda are several churches. The Santa María
la Mayor church has an interesting bell ringing.
In each of the windows of the bell tower is a bell.
This church is one of the most important buildings
of the city and was built on the highest place.
Absolutely worthwhile from outside and inside. Opposite
is a park, the Plaza Duquesa de Parcent, and besides
is the town hall (=Ayuntamiento) with the local
police. If you have questions as a tourist then
you can get informations directly on the place next
to the bridge by the "Parador Nacional de Turismo",
in the tourist office. As a tourist it will be wonderful
in Ronda. The prices to stay in a hotel or hostal
can be from cheap to expensive. And you can also
have good and bargain meal in one of the countless
Restaurants. You will find robust pubs and also
breathtaking locals with a feeling you would seek
in Marbella.

The
market places e.g. "Plaza del Socorro",
with it´s church and Cafe´s will invite
you to stay and to enjoy the peace of the "Siesta"
besides the monumental buildings.
Here you have the possibility to park in an underground
car park, if there is a parking area free. For visiting
Ronda you must have the time of at least 3/4 hours
only to see a small part of the city. You don´t
must drive with the car to visit Ronda. Ronda has
a railway and is connected with the most important
citizens. Such a train journey can impress you and
you can enjoy the Sierra de Nieves, the nature reserve.
Can be translated with "Sierra of Snow",
and indeed the mountains in the surroundings of
Ronda look as if they are covered by snow.

This
stunning view in the setting sun must be seen. A
photo can´t give you that what you really
feel when you stay here. Age and antiquitiy have
a special Beauty and also the human and the buildings
are transient. For that the contrast is strongly
when you drive through the streets. Here is everything
new and clean and you feel that the visitors come
with money. On the one hand the lots of tourists,
on the other hand the inhabitants who seem to see
the activity of the city as a normal state.

The
Parador directly beside the bridge is the high-class
hotel from the store of state in the early times.
You can have a cofee on the terrace and a stunning
view to the valley. The cake was an unreasonable
demand s.th. like "Tourist don´t come
again". There are surely better Cafés
in the city. The Parador lives from the well situated
place. However, the service is good and the coffee
also tastes good.
There
is a problem if you search a parking space in Ronda.
Try to park before you come into the centre of the
city. Even on weekends it´s hardly possible
to find a parking space. Ronda must be visited on
foot to feel happy. A clean city and ideal to go
shopping. The
prices for shoes, leather, clothes are unbeatable
and they have also the lates fashion as opposed
to the coast. And also the quality is high standard.
Shopping in Ronda, that´s our hot tip :-)

The
small alleys like e.g. on this photo, near to the
bullring "Plaza de Toros" are worthwhile.
And it´s all clean. For all these facts we

Ronda
looks from below a little bit fragile which you
can´t believe if you stay on top of the
bridge of the city. You could imagine yourself
that only a little seismic shock or a storm could
destroy all this structure. So below at the foot
of the mountain you´ll be aware of the dimensions.
How you can reach this point? Now, if you come
from the city and reach the roundabout west, then
keep right to the direction of Gaucín,
and only a few metres later turn off sharp right
(Bodega San Francisco). You can drive with your
car but you must know that the way is small and
steep. If you want to enjoy the panaroma at the
top of this side you turn off right by the roundabout
to the direction of Gaucín, and then you
keep straight on. On the right you´ll see
a sign with the words "Virgen de la Cabeza".
It´s a country lane. After approx. one kilometre
you can stop and make the original photo of Ronda
of you have a camera with a 120 zoom.

Our
team was very impressed about Ronda and we were
agreed at once: "Soon we´ll visit Ronda
again."

Some
informations about Ronda:
Ronda was built on more than 700m height closed
to a gorge, which splits the city in two parts.
Old town gates, museums like "Museo de Bandolero"
and "Museo de Caza" (= hunting museum),
also the mansions, decorated with coats of arms,
as an example of the architectural heritage, the
churches, the monasteries, the nearly complete
maintained arabic bathes, the ceramic shops, the
antique furniture shops, ....it is unbelievable
what Ronda offers.
Festivities
and Fiestas:
Ronda celebrates in September the "Fiesta
de Pedro Romero", with Flamenco Shows and
the traditional bullfight of Goya.
Ronda has also several local holidays and Fiestas.
Especially to point out are the eastern festivities
(= "Semana Santa" ), the "Fiestas
de la Reconquista" ( = recapture ) in May,
and also the pilgram in honest of "Nuestra
Senora de la Cabeza", which will be celebrated
the second sunday in June.
